Minnesota-based Hewitt Machine & Manufacturing Inc. has issued a nationwide recall of approximately 1,700 chain driven winches after learning that the rolling chains might break, possibly causing injurious accidents to users and bystanders, a report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated on May 20.

According to the report, the product being recalled is Hewitt Machine & Manufacturing winches, which were sold at different boat and watersport retailers across the country and online at buyhewitt.com between April 2014 and October 2014. The affected products have model numbers 1501, 2001, and 2501, and a date code ranging from December 2013 to September 2014 in a MM YY format.

The company has already received six reports of roller chains breaking. Affected consumers may have their roller chains replaced free of charge by contacting the company.
