The importance of fall protection training

Posted on May 20, 2015 2:38 pm under Construction Accident

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) guidelines for protecting roofing workers, falls from roofs accounted for 34% and close to 1,200 deaths between 2003 and 2013. Equipping roofers with sufficient fall protection training is considered a key factor in cutting back the risk.

The OSHA requires fall protection training to have the following characteristics:

  • Conducted by a highly-trained and competent person
  • Includes fall hazard detection and mitigation
  • Includes information on how to inspect, assemble/disassemble, and maintain fall protection equipment

On the other hand, fall protection retraining is required if:

  • The workers’ performance is suggestive of a retraining
  • The previous training becomes obsolete due to changes in the work environment or procedure

However, some construction accidents happen not because of lack of training, but because of faulty construction equipment. If you think your accident has resulted from a faulty construction tool, the legal team at Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® might be able to help you file a claim against the manufacturer involved.
