Injury reports prompt PetSmart Inc. to recall its water tanker heaters

PetSmart Inc. of Phoenix, Arizona, is recalling about 112,200 Top Fin Plastic Aquarium Heaters over reports of electrical failure that resulted in minor shock and property damage, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported on June 15.

The affected heaters, which were sold between August 2014 and April 2015 at different PetSmart stores nationwide, were made available in 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 wattages. Affected model numbers are HT50, HT100, HT150, HT200, and HT250. The company received several reports of injury, including four reports of minor shock, seven reports of overheating, and one report of fire due to short circuit.

Affected consumers are asked to return the defective product at the nearest PetSmart store for a full refund.
