Different PTSD symptoms: Hyperarousal

Posted on July 7, 2015 9:45 am under Car Accidents

Experts believe that there are three different categories of post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD. People suffering from this condition may try their best to forget the traumatic event (avoidance). But they are often forced to recollect the situation through flashbacks and dreams (intrusive).

Avoidance and intrusive symptoms of PTSD are usually triggered by certain objects or situations. However, there are some PTSD symptoms that are constant, which means they appear even when unprompted. These symptoms are usually changes in a person’s emotional reactions and mood, or hyperarousal symptoms, and may include:

  • Often tense, on guard, or on edge
  • Angry outbursts
  • Aggressive behavior
  • Easily frightened, jumpy
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Difficulty falling asleep
