Mazda recalling airbags in 444K vehicles in the US

Posted on July 10, 2015 3:15 pm under Automotive Defects

A June 17 article on SaferCar.gov revealed that Mazda is recalling over 444,000 previous vehicle models in North America to fix an airbag problem that may cause injuries to drivers.

The Mazda recall affects 444,907 later vehicle models that were made between 2002 and 2007. The recalled vehicles reportedly have airbags installed in the drivers’ side that can be penetrated by moisture and other contaminants that deteriorate the durability of the airbags. Injuries that are considered serious or fatal may occur if the airbags explode upon deployment and release shrapnel-like fragments from the inflator. Mazda stated in the recall that they will coordinate with owners of the recalled vehicles for the free replacement of the faulty airbag inflators.
