Avalanche airbag packs recalled over risk of malfunction

Posted on July 13, 2015 9:22 am under Product Liability

Black Diamond Inc. is recalling about 1,000 of its Black Diamond, Pieps, and POC Brand JetForce avalanche airbag packs after learning that a defective motor may cause the product not to deploy, increasing the risk of injury and death, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stated on June 9.

Defective avalanche airbag packs were made between October 2, 2014 and March 3, 2015, and were sold at different specialty outdoor stores across the country, as well as online at www.blackdiamondequipment.com between December 2014 and June 2015. The brands’ model, capacity, and color are detailed on the CPSC report.

No reports have been associated with the issue yet. Affected customers are encouraged to contact the company for details on how to return the product for a free fix.

Outdoor airbag packs like these are designed to mitigate injuries and save lives. When flawed, however, they can cause unimaginable harm.
