Injury reports prompt recall of sensor trash cans

Posted on July 17, 2015 3:23 pm under Product Liability

EKO USA is recalling about 367,000 EKO Sensible Eco Living motion sensor trash cans after receiving injury reports about a black plastic protective collar at the back of the trash can’s opening that can become displaced, exposing a sharp edge that can harm users, a report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated on July 17.

The defective trash cans, which open when they detect motion nearby, have model number EK9288BMT-80L found on the underside of the lid. The affected products were sold exclusively at Costco Wholesale outlets nationwide and online at Costco.com from December 2013 to June 2015. To date, the company has received 13 reports of laceration associated with the issue.

Customers are advised to return the defective trash can to Cotsco for a full refund, or contact EKO USA for a free repair kit.
