Acorn Superglide 120 motorized stair lifts recalled over associated deaths

Orlando, Florida-based Acorn Stairlifts Inc. is recalling about 34,500 of its Acorn Superglide 120 motorized stair lifts after receiving two reports of the seat detaching from the main seat support, resulting in two deaths in the United Kingdom, according to the report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on July 21.

Five versions of the Acorn Superglide 120 are affected by the recall: Acorn 120 Stairlift, Acorn 120 Outdoor Stairlift, Acorn 120 Superglide Stairlift, Acorn Outdoor Stairlift, and Acorn Slimline Stairlift. The affected products bear serial number ranging from 110101209781 to 110202352678, and were manufactured between March 2007 and March 2011.

The defective products were sold at Acorn Stairlifts and its authorized dealers across the U.S. between March 2007 and December 2011.

No reports of injuries or deaths have been recorded in the country. Consumers are asked to contact the company for a free home repair.
