Umpire and catcher face masks recalled due to failing stitches

Posted on August 2, 2015 1:21 pm under Product Liability

About 10,000 Diamond Sports umpire and catcher face masks are being recalled by Diamond Sports Inc. after receiving reports about defective stitches on the mask’s harness that may cause the harness to come off or loosen, posing risk of impact injury, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported on Tuesday, July 28.

The recall involves face masks with lot number D-0143, D-0842, D-1041, D-1142, D-0152 or D-0451. Lot numbers are written on a sticker on one of the face masks’ inside metal bar. Masks with reinforced “X” stitching inside a box on the harness straps are not included in the recall.

To date, the company has received 36 reports of defective stitches. Customers are asked not to use the product and to contact the company for a free replacement harness.
