Approximately 3,900 accessory heaters installed in TAM7 and TAM8 air handlers are being recalled by Trane U.S. Inc. after learning that one of the component’s breakers with reverse polarity can cause the heater to overheat and pose a fire safety risk, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported on Friday, August 14.
The defective components were manufactured from November 2014 to March 2015 and have model numbers BAYEVCC25BK1BAA (25 KW Electric Heater) and BAYEVBC15BK1BAA (15 KW Electric Heater), with serial numbers ranging from 1503B2AP0X to 1513B2BHXX and 1447B2BP1X to 1512B2CDDX, respectively. To date, the company has received 10 reports of circuit breaker trips, one of which caused heater damage.
The defective components were made available at Trane and American Standard independent dealers across the U.S. between January 2015 and April 2015. Customers should stop using the unit’s heater function and contact their dealer for a free inspection.
