Arm curl machines recalled over reports of impact injury

Posted on August 25, 2015 2:03 pm under Product Liability

Four models of Cybex International, Inc.’s arm curl machines are being recalled after learning that the machines are equipped with defective swivel handles that may disengage from the frame, making the users more prone to hitting themselves in the head or face, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said on Tuesday, August 25.

Recalled models include VR2 Arm Curl, VR2A Arm Curl, Eagle Arm Curl, and VR3 Arm Curl. The defective exercise machines were sold by Cybex and its distributors directly to gyms between November 1996 and October 2008. The initial digits of the affected serial numbers can be found on the CPSC website.

The company has received 108 reports associated with the issue, 12 of which resulted in injury to users. One customer has also reported loss of sight to one eye after using the defective arm curl machine.

Consumers are warned not to use the product, and to contact the company immediately for a free repair kit.
