Canned seafood products recalled over botulism risk

Posted on October 20, 2015 4:54 pm under Product Liability

On October 15, The Garibaldi Cannery LLC announced a nationwide voluntary recall for all of their canned products that have codes starting with “OC.” The recalled products might be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that could potentially cause life-threatening illness and even death. Symptoms of botulism food poisoning include difficulty breathing, double-vision, general weakness, and abdominal distension, among others.

The recalled products were shipped nationwide through the manufacturer’s website and distributed to consumers around Oregon. Garibaldi Cannery’s owner, Skipanon Brands Seafoods LLC, was recently inspected by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and several products appeared to be under-processed.

Consumers should immediately stop consumption of items included in this recall, even if they do not look or smell spoiled, and contact the manufacturer for a replacement.

It’s incredibly important that negligent food manufacturers be held accountable when their negligence results in innocent consumers falling ill.
