Police Chief Craig Sherven identified a recent car accident victim as a McFarland Police K9 officer. The accident occurred on November 23 in the town of Albion at around noon. Dane County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Elise Schaffer stated that an eastbound pickup truck on County Highway N crossed the median and struck the 33-year-old police officer’s squad car head-on. Authorities report that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as a 25-year-old wildlife biologist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources who was driving a DNR vehicle at the time of the incident. She suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Mercy Hospital in Janesville for treatment.
Schaffer stated that there was slush on the highway where the crash happened, but it remains unknown whether the road conditions contributed to the collision.
