Compounded multivitamins recalled

Posted on December 8, 2015 3:02 pm under Product Liability

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on November 25 that Glades Drugs’ compounded multivitamin capsules were recalled due to the discovery that they contain a high amount of vitamin D3, Cholecarciferol. The U.S. FDA received reports of adverse effects that may potentially be due to the intake of the product.

The effect may be life-threatening if the toxicity in vitamin D is not treated. The FDA stated that the symptoms may not be easily visible or felt, so consumers must seek medical help if they have taken the vitamins.

Short-term vitamin D toxicity symptoms include increased urination and thirst, appetite loss, vomiting, and muscle weakness.

Glades Drugs had sent letters addressing the recall to patients and contacted the prescribing physicians.
