Two-vehicle crash results in hazardous leak

Posted on December 23, 2015 2:13 pm under Car Accidents

A truck carrying two 100-pound propane tanks and a car were involved in a crash on 5th Street and North Avenue in Milwaukee’s north side at around 8:00 a.m. on December 15.

Milwaukee police officers stated that a surveillance video showed a car driving through a stop sign and striking the truck. The crash caused one of the tanks to fall from the truck, leading to a propane leak. A hazardous materials response team was called to the scene to further investigate the crash.

Milwaukee Fire Department Battalion Chief Joel Rechlitz said that propane is extremely explosive, and that they have evacuated several households and businesses within the area.

The driver of the car was cited for Operating after Suspension and Failure to Obey a Stop Sign.
