Undeclared ingredients prompt recall of weight loss supplements

Posted on January 2, 2016 6:18 pm under Product Liability

BeeXtreme LLC issued a recall of the weight loss dietary supplements under the brands Jenesis, Oasis, and La’ Trim Plus after an analysis by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found undeclared Phenolphthalein and Sibutramine in the products.

Sibutramine is known to increase blood pressure and pulse rate, and it may pose a serious health risk to consumers with coronary heart disease, arrhythmia, stroke, or congestive heart failure. Phenolphthalein, on the other hand, may be carcinogenic and is currently unapproved for marketing in the United States. Long-term use of Phenolphthalein may pose the risk of irregular heartbeat, cancer, and gastrointestinal disturbances, according to FDA.

The notice by the FDA stated that consumers must stop consuming these products and immediately dispose of the recalled supplements. For distributors who sold the products, customers must be immediately contacted and advised of the recall.
