According to a series of reports by NBC 15, a 30-year-old woman from Mazomanie passed away after being involved in a head-on collision on January 7 in the town of Cross Plains in Dane County. The crash occurred at around 9:45 a.m. near Rocky Dell Road at the intersection of Highway 14 and Stagecoach Road.
Dane County Lieutenant Tim Schuetz stated that a vehicle traveling westbound veered into the left side of the roadway and struck an oncoming car head-on. The 30-year-old driver of the first car was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The occupants of the second car, two women and two children, were transported to the hospital, although their conditions are still unknown.
The initial investigation showed that although the vehicle’s air bags deployed, lack of seat belt use was a factor in the fatality. Lt. Schuetz said that if the occupants of the second vehicle were not wearing seat belts, the aftermath of the crash could have been a lot worse.
The reason for the crash is still unknown, and the investigation is on-going.
