The Journal Times reported that a car rear-ended another vehicle on January 2 on Highway 20 at the East Frontage Road around 12:35 p.m. Both vehicles were damaged, although no injuries were reported. According to Mount Pleasant Police Sergeant David Stroupe, the offending vehicle fled the scene and was followed by a motorist who witnessed the initial accident.
The investigation showed that the vehicle in question was traveling at a high rate of speed on the eastbound side of block 13000 at 7 Mile Road when it drove into the front yard of a residence and exited into a parking lot at a BP gasoline station. The vehicle continued on Caledonia and then returned to I-94. A motorist followed the offending vehicle until the suspect finally stopped in the southbound lanes of I-94 near Spring Street fourteen minutes after the accident.
The suspect, 30-year-old Israel Oliver of Milwaukee, was caught by Mount Pleasant Police and Racine County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash, and the reason why the man fled the scene of the accident is still unknown.
