According to deputies at the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, a 22-year-old man from Wausau was killed after being hit by a semi-truck on Interstate 39, WSAW reported. The news release detailed that the truck-pedestrian accident happened at around 10:30 p.m. in the town of Knowlton, near Mosinee.
Based on a statement by Lieutenant Tim Burkholder, the 22-year-old man pulled over at mile marker 173 on I-39 and got out of his car. He was then hit by the semi-truck, which was driven by a 62-year-old man from Kennan, and was declared dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries in the collision.
The road was shut down for four hours during the accident reconstruction. It is still unknown why the 22-year-old man stopped his vehicle on the freeway or why he was outside of his car, WAOW reported.
