Swingasan chairs and stands recalled due to fall risks

Posted on January 21, 2016 4:48 pm under Product Liability

Approximately 260,000 units of Pier 1 Imports’ Swingasan chairs and stands were recalled on January 12, according to a notice by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The suspension hardware of the chair and stand is apparently prone to breaking, and the stand has the possibility of being unstable when the product is being used. These faults pose fall and injury hazards to anyone using the chairs. 101 cases regarding the chairs and stands have already been reported to the company. 93 reports showed that the stand was unstable and tipped over, and 23 injuries were cited. There are also 8 cases of the suspension hardware failing, and 4 of those resulted in injuries.

The chairs and the stands were sold individually, and the complete list of product dimensions and descriptions are provided on the CPSC website.

The recalled chairs were sold nationwide at Pier 1 Imports stores and on pier1.com from January 2010 to August 2015.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled chair and stand, and the company is encouraging consumers to return the product for a full refund or a free repair kit.
