Shock-prone vacuums recalled by Dirt Devil

Posted on February 11, 2016 2:43 pm under Product Liability

On February 2, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a notice pertaining to the recall of Dirt Devil® Total Pet Cyclonic Upright vacuums by Royal Appliance Mfg. Co. The electric cord plug prongs of the vacuum are reportedly detaching and becoming lodged in wall outlets after the vacuums are unplugged, and the detached prong may possibly shock the consumer while it is still connected to the outlet.

The recall affects 149,000 units of the faulty vacuum, and 14 reports of the defective prongs detaching have been sent to the company, although no injuries were reported. The model numbers affected in the recall are: UD70210, UD70210CA and UD70210RM. All additional information regarding the product and the recall has been provided on the CPSC website.

Consumers have been advised to stop using the defective vacuums and call Dirt Devil for their free replacements.
