Standard Violation prompts recall of children’s musical instrument

Posted on February 13, 2016 4:00 pm under Defective Child Care Products

On February 4, it was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that KHS America’s Green Tone 8-note Monkey Glockenspiel has been recalled due to production violations of federal lead paint standards. Apparently, there may be excessive amounts of lead in the paint of the pink metal note bar. If the lead paint is scratched off and ingested by the child, serious health problems may occur.

The recall notice stated that 150 units of the musical instrument were recalled. The Monkey Glockenspiel has eight multi-colored metal note bars that are placed on a monkey-shaped wooden base. The pink bar should be removed and replaced to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.

KHS America advised consumers to remove the pink bar from the toy and contact them for a free replacement.
