A report by the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune confirmed that one passenger is dead and five other occupants were injured after a head-on collision at around 9:15 p.m. in Port Edwards on February 19. According to a press release from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, officers from their department and the Port Edwards Police responded to the crash, and investigations showed that the first vehicle went over the median and crashed into the second vehicle.
One of the occupants was killed at the scene, while five others sustained significant injuries. One injured occupant, who first was listed in critical condition and is now expected to survive, was transported by airlift to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The four other occupants were taken to River View Hospital, and reports detailed that they are all expected to be in fair condition.
The icy condition of the road may have contributed to the accident, according to Wisconsin State Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
