California-based automotive company Tesla Motors issued a voluntary recall of at least 2,700 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to fix a seat back problem that can cause injuries to passengers should an accident occur, an April 11th article from CNBC reported.
Reports stated that the third-row seat backs of the Tesla Model X SUVs may detach when a front impact collision occurs. Tesla confirmed that they did not receive any reports of crashes or injuries involving the recalled SUVs before they issued the recall. The company’s sales and service president, Jon McNeill, explained that the seat latch may fail during a front crash if passengers are restrained by seat belts in the third-row of seats. Tesla’s seat back supplier will address the issue by replacing all of the affected third-row seat recliners at no cost.
