21-year-old Jatavious Kwan Webster of Milwaukee recently pleaded guilty to hit and run charges in reference to a fatal car accident that occurred last year. Webster was drag racing his Audi station wagon when he caused a fatal crash with a Chevy Cobalt. When police arrived at the scene of the collision, they found the Audi empty and realized that Webster and his other passengers fled the scene on foot.
Judge Joseph Donald sentenced Webster to 12 years in prison, plus six years supervision. Webster’s family claims that he deserved a reduced sentence because it was an accident, but prosecutors in the case disagreed. Not only did Webster flee the scene of a fatal accident, but he was also drag racing at the time and driving with a suspended license.
Both the victim’s mother and his girlfriend, who was in the car with him at the time of the accident, testified against Webster in the case.
