88-year-old Waterloo resident Helen Henkel passed away because of injuries suffered in a three-vehicle auto accident on Monday, May 9. The wreck occurred on State 89 at the intersection of County Highway T in Dodge County on May 4.
According to preliminary investigations made by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, 52-year-old Patricia Winter was operating a 2007 Jeep on State Highway 89 when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of County Highway T, causing her Jeep to hit a 2003 Dodge operated by 18-year-old Waterloo resident Benjamin Stevens, who was headed north on County Highway T.
The Dodge was then forced into the County Highway T southbound traffic lane, causing it to collide with a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 32-year-old Waterloo resident Duane Schoenherr.
Henkel, who had been riding with Winter, was transported by Waterloo Emergency Medical Service to Community Hospital for the treatment of her serious injuries. She was transferred to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison where she later passed away.
