Darlington man involved in two-vehicle collision loses life at Madison hospital

Eighty-two-year-old Darlington resident George Hirsbrunner, who was involved in a two-vehicle collision in April 2016, lost his life last Sunday, June 12 at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison.

According to Hirsbrunner’s obituary, he had complications resulting from the injuries he sustained during the crash. Police said the accident involving Hirsbrunner occurred on April 13, 2016 at approximately 1:15 p.m. at the intersection of Wisconsin 80/81 and Wisconsin 81 in Smelser Township. Grant County Sheriff Nate Dreckman said 34-year-old Cuba City resident Jason Ambs was headed north on Wisconsin 80 when he collided with Hirsbrunner’s vehicle. Hirsbrunner was first taken to Southwest Health Center in Plateville for the treatment of his critical injuries.
