Rock County judge Michael Haakenson sentenced Brandon Russell to 18 years in prison on Thursday for his role in an April 2015 crash that killed an unborn baby girl and injured five others. Family members were in the courtroom to support both Russell and victim Jameson Sughroue.

Sughroue was 34 weeks pregnant at the time of the crash. She explained how the incident negatively impacted her, her fiancé, her son, Russell’s children, and other people not involved in the crash. Sughroue and her fiancé, Richmond Beckard, had planned to name the girl Reese. Russell also spoke and apologized, explaining how he wished he could take back the occurrence and that he never meant for any of it to happen. Russell was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the incident.

The attorneys at Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. ® would like to express their deep regret and sympathy for the trauma of both families. We hope that accidents such as this one can be prevented in the future to avoid the suffering of innocent people.
