A wrongful death lawsuit against Dane County, filed by the family of 51-year-old Madison resident fire victim, has been settled.
The settlement will see a $5,000 donation check to a local nonprofit food pantry, along with no admission of wrongdoing from the county. This suit was filed following the slow response from the Dane County 911 Center, which took nearly four minutes to dispatch firefighters to the fire that killed the Madison resident. Firefighters took 10 minutes on top of this to arrive and this led to the victims’ death due to smoke inhalation.
Dane Country, since the lawsuit, has made a point of hiring more employees for the 911 Center and has reported much faster dispatch speeds.
