The Village of Somers Firefighters responded to a 3:45 a.m. call about a barn fire on Wednesday, August 17, located off 38th Street.
The barn was entirely consumed in flames upon the arrival of both firefighters and deputies of Somers. When they interviewed the barn’s owner, they revealed that there was at least 5,000 bales of straw inside, as well as various types of farming equipment and some recreational vehicles. Several other fire departments responded to the early morning call, and the nearby roads were all closed until just over six hours later.
Investigators have not revealed any information as to how the fire started.
