Man trapped in car that hit tree

Automotive Defects

A man became trapped in his car after losing control and running into a tree on Wednesday, September 7, in west Madison.

The accident happened in front of the Waterleaf Apartments and the vehicle was badly damaged on the windshield, dashboard, and passenger side. The airbags did not work, for unknown reasons. Firefighters arrived at the scene after receiving a call at 12:15 p.m. and extracted the driver.

In a statement to the fire department, the man told officials that his foot had been trapped beneath the accelerator, resulting in high speeds exacerbated by the wet roadway.

The 52-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
