A local business to the Town of Richmond caught fire on Tuesday, October 25, ending up almost completely demolished.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office was first on the scene, called ahead of the fire department because an alarm for theft had gone off at approximately at the same time. The Whitewater Fire Department was subsequently called and arrived at the scene just before 3 a.m.
Fortunately, the restaurant and bar had been closed for some time and there were no remaining employees, meaning that the large fire led to no injuries. Firefighters across 10 stations, including those from Whitewater, spent three hours working on putting out the fire.
Damage is estimated to have totaled the equivalent of $400,000. The source of the fire is still not known and the investigation is ongoing.
