Motorcycle crash killed a deer and operator in Columbia Co

A single-vehicle crash between a motorcycle and a deer occurred on Highway 33 in the Town of Pacific Monday afternoon, November 7, and resulted in the death of the driver.

The accident occurred in the afternoon and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a call to report the accident around 3:00 p.m. It was reported to them that the motorcyclist appeared seriously hurt and unconscious, laying on the road away from the vehicle.

It only took a few minutes for authorities to arrive, which included two Columbia County Deputies and several paramedics with the rescue crews. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and needed immediate medical care for his severe injuries.

The investigation has revealed that the motorcycle had been headed east on Highway 33 when the animal ran across the road, being struck and killed by the man. The man needed to be transported to UW Hosptial via Med Flight. The man, later identified as Anton A. Salaks, Sr., would die from his injuries at the hospital. The highway remained closed for an hour while the investigation went on.
