Fire breaks out in a Fond du Lac home

Fires and Explosions

A home’s basement caught fire early Christmas morning on South Park Avenue in Fond du Lac, reports say.

At around 3:15 a.m., local firefighters were dispatched to the scene after being alerted of a basement fire in a two-story duplex located at the 400 block of South Park Avenue. The fire was contained within a few minutes. Crews remained at the scene for further investigation.

Authorities commended a 9-year-old boy who alerted his parents about smoke in the living room where he was sleeping, which was coming from the basement. The family was able to evacuate before the firefighters arrived at the area.

The cause of fire remains unclear but the investigators discovered that the smoke detectors in the basement and the first floor of the building were not functioning. No one was injured in the fire.
