Two injured in plane crash in Brookfield

Aviation Accident

An airplane accident seriously injured two people at Capitol Airport on Gumina Road, on Wednesday, January 4.

According to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department, the single-engine plane was about to take off from Capitol Airport when, for unknown reasons, it went off the runway and struck a blue SUV hauling a trailer. The SUV had no occupant.

The impact of the crash injured the pilot, who was identified only as a 41-year-old man from Virginia, and his 37-year-old wife. They were rushed to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life. A 6-month-old infant, who was in the back seat with his mother, was not injured but was transported to Children’s Hospital as a precaution.

Investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause of the crash. The preliminary investigation shows that the victims were headed back to Virginia when the tragedy took place.
