All workers in the United States enjoy a number of rights when it comes to their job, from the treatment they receive at work to the work they must complete. One critical part of these rights are the provisions requiring employers to pay their employees no less than the minimum wage and to provide enhanced pay for any hours worked over the maximum 40-hour work week.

Unfortunately, however, not all eligible employees are always given these benefits from their employers, and far too many hard-working individuals are denied the full wages they have earned. However, in many cases, those who have been underpaid because of illegal and unfair employment practices can take action against their employer to pursue the compensation they deserve for the work they performed.

Common Overtime and Minimum Wage Violations

Violations of minimum wage laws and overtime laws can occur in several different ways. The following is a brief list of some of the most common of these violations:

  • Misclassification of employees
  • Failure to pay workers for work performed before or after shifts
  • Failure to pay workers for work performed at home
  • Requiring workers to perform work duties during lunch breaks
  • Unlawful automatic paycheck deductions
  • Failure to pay employees minimum wage
  • Failure to pay overtime wages

Unfortunately, far too many American employees face these unfair treatments at the hands of their employers, often causing them undue financial hardship.
