Next month, under a new ordinance from the City of Milwaukee, owners of parking lots and structures will be required to submit security plans to police prior to licensure approval.
The new requirements come after the death of a nurse practitioner walking to her car after her shift at Froedtert in 2019 along with, other attacks and other safety concerns in parking lots and structures.
In 2018, a woman was stabbed more than a dozen times by a stranger in the parking structure at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital. The woman’s attorney, Habush attorney, Benjamin Wagner said of the ordinance, “This is a great step forward in compelling property owners who invite the public on to their premises to have reasonable safety measures. This can only help.”
